Avenes

The remote locality of Avenes in the Val di Vizze offers a via ferrata, horse riding, and hiking trails

In the Val di Vizze valley, the bus stops at Avenes (Afers) and Avenes Ponte (Afers Brücke) - two names for one of the many small hamlets that make up the municipality of Val di Vizze. There are only three villages, everything else consists of scattered settlements and clusters of farms with names like Fossa, Riva, Tulves, and Borgone. Nevertheless, Avenes is quite well-known among those seeking active holidays. The area offers various opportunities for outdoor activities.

One of these is located directly in the hamlet: The Bacherhof hiking and riding farm is one of the riding stables in the Valle Isarco and offers guided full-day and half-day rides, as well as introductory lessons for children. Above Avenes, the Ölberg Via Ferrata climbs through the rock faces, revealing beautiful views of the entrance to the Val di Vizze with its farmsteads.

The recently opened via ferrata boasts routes of medium difficulty (B/D). Below the via ferrata, the Avenes Circular Trail winds through the alpine landscape. In two hours, it leads up to the meadows of the Pfammes Alpine Pasture (not managed) and then on to Lake Vizze.

This reservoir is the remnant of a vast body of water that filled the head of the valley until a rockslide about a thousand years ago. Today, it offers a beautiful view of the high valley and the mountain bikers cycling past on their way to the Giogo di Vizze ridge and the Fundres Pass.
