The hamlet of Monte di Mezzo (Mitterberg) is particularly known for its Monte di Mezzo Fortress or Festung Mitterberg, which was once an important fortification in this border region. It dates back to the 19th century, when the defence alliance between the Austro-Hungarian Empire and the Kingdom of Italy provided for the strengthening of the national borders. Today you can visit this bulwark of artillery emplacements and granite armour on a guided tour. Since it was built for its function at a point from which the entire surrounding area could be seen, it offers an impressive panoramic view on Mt. Croda Rossa, towards the Three Peaks of Lavaredo and the Val Fiscalina.

Also Monte di Fuori (Ausserberg) refers to the hamlet with its farms on the slopes as well as the mountain itself, as Monte is the Italian term for mountain. The Farm Round Tour, called Höferunde in German, shows you not only the impressive rural landscape of Sesto, but also old millstones, bizarre rock formations and prehistoric shell stones. The above-mentioned Monte di Mezzo and Monte di Dentro (Innerberg) in Sesto can also be experienced in beautiful tours that lead from farm to farm and through the meadows and forests in the Three Peaks Nature Park.

When snow then covers the alpine pastures and high located villages, many paths are ideal for winter hikes. This can often be already in late autumn. An excursion takes you from Monte di Fuori via the Wetzwiesen meadows to the rustic Hunting Lodge. Afterwards, the route leads back to San Vito, to the forest chapel or up to the mountain station of the Monte Elmo Cable Car. There you will find the eponymous ski area, which is part of the impressive 3 Zinnen Dolomites Ski Resort.
