Piccolino, the Italian name, is exactly right - "very small" is the hamlet in the Val Badia valley, which also belongs to the municipality of San Martino in Badia. A few historical buildings adorn the village, including the house "Ćiasa dl Maier", which was already built around 1650 but is still well preserved, and the small St. Anthony Church of Piccolino (Pikolein). It is known as "dlijia de Sant Antone". Above it there is a much older building, Ćiastel Freieck, a castle from the 14th century.
However, Piccolino has not missed the connection to modern times, but only frames the modern facilities such as the cafés and restaurants, the pharmacy and the social centre with the venerable buildings. Not far away are the mountain villages of Antermoia and Longiarù, above them the Passo delle Erbe, and therefore all the possibilities for an active holiday in the mountains.
In winter, two ski areas are enthroned in the mountains above the Val Badia, one of which, the legendary Plan de Corones, can be reached directly from Piccolino by the Piculin Cable Car. The approx. 120 km of slopes in all degrees of difficulty make the Plan de Corones South Tyrol's largest and probably best-known ski resort. A little further into the valley, and connected to the Plan de Corones in the Dolomiti Superski ski carousel, are the slopes of the Alta Badia Skiing Area.
