Verano village

The Burgstall/Vöran Cable Car in the Adige Valley connects the valley floor with Verano village, the centre of the eponymous municipality

In Verano, the present and the past meet: On Mt. Monzoccolo, for example, the thatched roofs of some barns and buildings are a reminder of the Bavarian ancestry, while the largest photovoltaic island system in South Tyrol can be seen on the Verano Alpine Pasture. The small centre of the municipality, Verano village (Vöran Dorf), is clustered around the Parish Church of St. Nicholas, one of the oldest churches on the Monzoccolo Plateau, the bank and the primary school.

The cable car starts at the edge of the village and descends into the Adige Valley, climbing about 1,000 metres in just a few minutes. If you are trained, you can also do this distance on foot: The path under the cable car is well-known and much used by speed hikers. At the other end of the village is the bus stop, and the hiking paths start into the natural diversity of the Montezoccolo Highlands with their ponds, alpine pastures, mountain huts and wide meadows.

A hiking tip is the trail around the Hirschenbichl hill, which shows you the surroundings in a pleasant circular tour. Of course, the natural cinema, which is known throughout the region, also attracts visitors: The "Knottnkino" is located on one of the unique tuff-shaped hills and can be reached in an easy hike. It has armchairs you can enjoy all the splendour of the Valle dell'Adige up to the Dolomites, Mt. Penegal in the Oltradige area and the mighty peaks of the Texel Group.
