In Verano, modern life meets tradition: Thatched roofs on barns and extensions hark back to the village's Bavarian roots, while on the Verano Alp, South Tyrol's largest stand-alone photovoltaic system generates clean energy. The centre of Verano village (Vöran Dorf) clusters around the Parish Church of St. Nicholas, one of the oldest churches on the Monzoccolo plateau, as well as the bank and the primary school. The cable car starts at the edge of the village, whisking you down about 1,000 metres to the Adige Valley in just a few minutes.
Fitter visitors can also tackle this route on foot: The path beneath the cable car is popular with speed hikers. At the other end of the village, you'll find the bus stop and starting points for hikes into the diverse natural landscape of the Monzoccolo plateau, with its alpine pastures, ponds, and expansive meadows. One recommended hike is the circular route around the Hirschenbichl hill.
Also well-known is the "Knottnkino", a natural cinema popular throughout the region. Located on one of the distinctive porphyry hills, it can be reached with an easy hike.
From the chairs placed there, you can admire the full splendour of the Adige Valley, stretching to the Dolomites, Mt. Penegal in the Oltradige area, and the majestic Texel Group.
