Through the Sarentino Valley, onward to the Valle di Valdurna, and from there to the San Martino Valley: This is precisely where you'll find Boscoriva (Unterreinswald, literally: Lower San Martino), with its artisan workshops and the Gufl and Ausserebner bus stops. This small mountain village in the heart of South Tyrol welcomes you before the road climbs up to the larger village of San Martino. From there, the cable car whisks you up to the Reinswald hiking and skiing area.
Boscoriva is the perfect starting point for a wonderful hike through the Val Sarentino to the picturesque Lake Valdurna at the end of the valley. In about three hours, you'll traverse the Valdurna Valley, the longest side valley of the Val Sarentino, passing by welcoming refreshment stops, until you reach the lake at 1,545 metres above sea level. In the village itself, the Church of St. Nicholas is well worth a visit, with its beautifully revealed frescoes. You can easily return by bus.
In autumn, the landscape glows with the colours of larch and deciduous trees. Just like late spring, autumn is becoming increasingly popular as a travel season. The Val Sarentino is typically snow-covered until April, making it a popular destination for skiers and cross-country skiers.
Mountain inns invite you to savour the final moments of sunshine. Be sure to try Schlutzer, half-moon shaped pasta parcels with a ricotta spinach filling and served with melted butter, and the Sarner Striezl, a traditional yeast-dough pastry filled with the finest South Tyrolean Speck.
