Signato or Signat is a small village at the foot of the Renon, in a position where you can enjoy the fruit blossom as well as the ripening of the chestnuts along the Chestnut Trail, called "Keschtnweg" in local dialect. It is well known for its farmhouse parlours, which invite you to sociable evenings and delicious South Tyrolean dishes. The journey home is then particularly beautiful in the evening hours, when Mt. Sciliar and the Catinaccio shine in the evening glow.
Arrived in the village, there is not much more than a few houses around the Signater Hof inn and farms in the middle of the green. They are called Wiedenhofer, Rothensteiner and Weber. In the village centre itself there is the small St. Martin Church and a car park from where the hikes start: the one that begins in Bolzano and shows you the high plateau in the area of Soprabolzano and Signato is particularly popular. On this Signato Path you will also see some of the famous Earth Pyramids, the ones in the gorge of the Rio Rivellone known as Katzenbachgraben.
In the opposite direction, the new "Rebe" Wine Trail leads from Signato down to Rencio in one hour. There are numerous wineries in this area. Did you know that Renon, with 132 hectares of cultivated land, is one of the larger wine-growing municipalities in South Tyrol? The descent follows a "Wine Staircase" where some artistic installations on the topic of viticulture are set up.
