Between summer tours and autumn hikes, Siffiano - or Siffian, in German - invites you to explore nature on the Renon High Plateau

Siffiano lies just below Collalbo, the main village of the municipality of Renon. The village church of St. Peter, which has a long history dating back to the 14th century, rises between the few houses of this sunny little spot. Amidst vines and fruit trees, there are several farms in the so-called Siffianer Leitach (Leitach denotes a scattered settlement with a few, single farms), which offer farm holidays and their own farm products. Here, organic wines and organic meat are produced, home-made bread is sold and fruit and vegetables are cultivated.
Two special features in Siffiano are the memorial plaque at the birthplace of Peter Mayr, a hero of the Tyrolean Rebellion in 1809, and the ruins of Castel Pietra or Stein (which means stone) in the surrounding area. In the past, the court was held there. The complex owes its name to the Stein family, who inhabited it in the 12th century. Later it became the property of an important family from Villandro. Among South Tyrolean meteorologists, however, Siffiano is known for its weather station, which records data such as air temperature, wind direction and global radiation.
If you want to explore the plateau on foot, the easy 2.5-hour hike from Siffiano to Longomoso is ideal: It partly follows the Chestnut Trail, a popular multi-day route across the Isarco Valley, which leads over the Renon in the last section. It is a wonderful recommendation in autumn, when the forests are changing colour and chestnuts can be seen everywhere. Siffiano is also known for Toerggelen: Cosy wine taverns serve sweet chestnuts and new wine - the highlight of every autumn hike.
