Nice winter hike with sledge ride on the legendary Passo dello Stelvio High Alpine Road, which is closed to traffic in winter
Image gallery: Toboggan ride on the Stelvio Pass Road
This sledge run is a special feature of South Tyrol because it allows us to toboggan on the famous Stelvio Pass Road which is considered one of the most beautiful panoramic roads in the world.
The affected section of the road in the Stelvio National Park, on which our winter hike and tobogganing is possible, of course only includes the lower hairpin bends near the valley (the upper part of the road is exposed to avalanches in winter). Above the village of Trafoi all'Ortles, at the junction to the pilgrimage church with its Sacred Three Fountains red deer enclosure (Heilige Drei Brunnen), the starting point of our winter hike on the Stelvio Road SS38 is located.
After the hairpin bends we reach the Weisser Knott tavern after about 1 hour walking time. We enjoy a nice break before we sledge down curve after curve, back to our starting point. It is one of the toboggan runs in the Val Venosta valley. Notice: The data indicated refer to the entire route, including return trip, on foot.
