This easy winter hike on the sunny plateau of the Villandro Alp leads to the Stöffl Mountain Hut and offers a stunning view

Starting point of this winter hike is the parking space at the Gasser Mountain Hut (chargeable), at the end of the road from Oberland above Villandro (Villanders) to the Villandro Alp. Just behind the hut the path no. 15 to the various huts of the wide alpine pasture area starts. Past the Mair-in-Plun Mountain Hut we pass several junctions, the path no. 15 turns towards north, crosses the Rio Tinne stream and leads uphill to the Stöffl Mountain Hut (Stöfflhütte).
The wide, groomed winter path is ideal for leisurely hiking. For tobogganing on the way back it is only partly suitable, as the ascents on long sections are too gentle. Not only the view across the snow-covered alpine landscape between Mt. Pascolo and Mt. Villandro is outstanding.
Also the view on the Dolomites, for which there are ideal light conditions in the afternoon, is overwhelming: The panoramic view stretches from Mt. Plose to the Putia Group, from the Fanes Group to the Odle Group, from the Sella Massif to Mt. Sassolungo, the Sciliar Massif and legendary Mt. Catinaccio. The Stöffl Mountain Hut is a nice place to stop and offers traditional South Tyrolean cuisine. For our way back to the parking space we take the same route.
