After an overnight stay at the Kreuzwiese Mountain Hut at Luson, we decide to make a snowshoe hike to the St. James Chapel

This snowshoe tour is quite easy and also not too long. We start at the Kreuzwiese Mountain Hut (Kreuzwiesenhütte) in Luson and walk through fresh powder snow towards Mt. Campiglio and further cross country until we reach the marker no. 2 which leads us to the Astalm Mountain Hut and the so-called Jakobsstöckl, that's to say the St. James Chapel (2,030 m a.s.l.). By the way: Near the Astalm the Valle di Luson valley passes into the Val Badia.
Arrived at the St. James Chapel we enjoy a gorgeous panoramic view on Mt. Plose and the Putia Group with the mighty Sasso Putia. The chapel is surrounded by a wonderful snowy landscape. Near the chapel, a summit cross is situated which is our next goal. Also from here the view is incredible and includes the Val Pusteria, the Valle Isarco and the peaks of the Dolomites. After a small picnic we start our way back towards the Kreuzwiese Mountain Hut along the same route.
This tour is the continuation of the "Snowshoe hike to the Kreuzwiese Mountain Hut". Those who want to extend the hike can walk further to the Glittner Joch ridge: Starting at the parking space in the small village of Valletta you reach the St. James Chapel along the path no. 2, via the Genaider and Astalm Huts. This 4 km long tour takes 1.5 hours, 400 altitude metres have to be mastered.
