Snowshoe hike to the Rastner Mountain Hut

Easy snowshoe tour across the great panoramic plateau of the Alpe di Rodengo and Luson to the Rastner Mountain Hut

In order to get to the starting point of our tour, we go to Rio di Pusteria at the entrance of the Val Pusteria valley and take the road to Rodengo (Rodeneck) or via Luson. After few km we take the road to the Rodengo Alp and follow it up to its end at the Zumis parking space (1,724 m a.s.l.). This is where we start our snowshoe tour across this fabulous winter landscape.

On the path no. 4, almost plain, we approach the high Alpine pasture. The path parallels one of the cross-country ski runs of the Luson Alp and the first section takes across the forest. Past the Roner Mountain Hut, by the way also a popular possibility to stop, we continue to the Pianer Kreuz, a little chapel in the heart of the winter landscape. Short after we follow the signpost to the Rastner Hut.

After a break at the hut (1,939 m a.s.l.) we continue on the path no. 68B, leading across the snow-covered forest and back to the path no. 2. If you stay on the paths, you can do this tour also without snow-shoes. Close to the Rastner Hut, there is the junction to the Giogo d'Asta ridge (Astjoch, 2,193 m a.s.l.) on the Rodengo Alp that can be reached on path no. 67. It is a popular destination for those who love snow-shoeing and provides a great view despite of its relatively moderate hight. Absolutely worthwhile! By the way, this mountain can also be reached from Elle.
