Snowshoe hike to the Kreuzwiese Mountain Hut

Our snowshoe tour starts in the village of Valletta (Flitt, 1,345 m a.s.l.) in Luson (Lüsen), where we also park our car and start walking with our snowshoes. We have got two possibilities: Either we walk along the sledge run, one of the toboggan runs of the Valle Isarco, or we take the steeper path. Both lead to a further parking space (1,620 m a.s.l.), which is only used in summer months.

We proceed on trail no. 2, then we walk across the fields towards the Koch Campill Hut, which can also be reached on the forest path no. 2 and path no. 10B. After a short stop we continue cross-country up to Mt. Campiglio on the Luson Alp, only 200 m of altitude difference are left. From this elevation we continue along the mountain ridge towards north-west and finally reach the Cima Lasta ridge (2,193 m a.s.l.), providing a fabulous view. In southern direction, we walk the way down to the Kreuzwiese Alp and the eponymous mountain hut, where we decide to stay overnight.

Otherwise you can rent a sledge in this place and enjoy tobogganing down the 5 km long track. Variant: The Kreuzwiese Mountain Hut can be reached in direct way in about 2 hours of walking, following the paths no 2 and 2A. Check in advance if the mountain hut is open and if there are free rooms available. Sledges can be rent at the mountain hut. The "snowshoe hike to the St. James Chapel" is a possible continuation of this tour (after an overnight stay at the Kreuzwiese Hut).
