Crossing two peaks in the beautiful Villgraten Mountains above the village of Tesido in the Val Pusteria valley

Driving to Tesido (Taisten), we pass the church of the village and follow the road towards the Alpenhof and finally the Mudler Farm, where we leave our car at a parking space about 300 m after the restaurant at 1,623 m a.s.l. Having put our snow shoes on, we follow the forest road no. 31 towards the Monte Luta mountain (Lutterkopf). After about 500 m we branch off to the left into the forest. Hiking steeply upwards for about 1.5 hours we finally reach our first peak, Mt. Luta, and enjoy a breathtaking distant view. After a short rest we continue our snow shoe tour towards Mt. Salomone (Durakopf), still following trail no. 31 through meadows and woods.
After about half an hour another trail branches off towards Alpe di Tesido (Taistner Alm). However, we still head towards Mt. Salomone (2,275 m), which we reach after about further 20 minutes of hiking via its quite steep southern slope. Once again we enjoy a great view on the Dolomites. After a short rest we follow trail no. 38A, which leads us to the popular Tesido Mountain Hut at the foot of Mt. Roda di Scandole, which is open in winter as well as in summer.
On the sledge run, one of the toboggan runs of the Val Pusteria, we hike back to our starting point. Variants: In case you prefer to climb just one peak, you can branch off to the Tesido Hut just before the ascent to Mt. Salomone. If you would like to do a three-peaks tour, however, you can also climb Mt. Roda di Scandole (Rudlhorn, 2,450 m) before you hike down to the Tesido Mountain Hut.
