Snowshoe tour from the Alpe di Villandro via the Gasser Mountain Hut to Mt. Corno del Renon, one of the most beautiful panoramic mountains of South Tyrol

From Oberland in Villandro (Villanders) in the Valle Isarco valley we drive towards the Villandro Alp, close to the Gasser Mountain Hut (parking space Speckboden free, parking space Gasser subject to charges). We park our car and continue with our snowshoes. On the path no. 7 we reach the Gasser Mountain Hut (Gasserhütte, 1,744 m a.s.l.), already in this place the view on Mt. Sassolungo and Mt. Sasso Piatto in the Sassolungo Group are astonishingly beautiful.
We continue towards the Moar in Plun Mountain Hut, following the signpost no. 6. Up to this place the path is also suitable for families and is rather flat. However, it does not continue like this. The path no. 7 towards the Sella dei Sentieri pass (Gasteiger Sattel) is much more exhausting. From the Moar in Plun Mountain Hut to the saddle, we overcome 200 m of altitude difference.
Other 200 m and another hour of walking are still ahead, before we finally reach Mt. Corno del Renon (Rittner Horn, 2,259 m a.l.s.) in the Sarentino Alps. It is one of the most beautiful panoramic mountains of South Tyrol and turns into the Corno del Renon Skiing Area in winter. If the weather is good, the view ranges from Mt. Grossglockner, the King of the Eastern Alps, to the Ortles Alps. For returning we take the same paths, some stages could be cut cross-country.
