Monte Cavallo Skiing Area

Skiing fun in Vipiteno: Italy’s longest floodlit and snow-covered toboggan run is easily accessible with the new cable car

The Monte Cavallo, the local mountain of Vipiteno in the Upper Valle Isarco, attracts winter sports enthusiasts with its new cable car and valley run. Just a five-minute walk from the town centre, the modern 10-person gondola lift, equipped with premium "Diamond EVO" cabins, whisks you up to the town's sunny terrace in just a few minutes. The entire system, including the valley and mountain stations, was renovated in 2022. Once at the top, 20 kilometres of perfectly groomed slopes await: Most of the runs are medium difficult.

The longest piste meanders 5.5 km down to Vipiteno, while the 1 km training slope is considered the most challenging. Children are well catered for: The Vipiteno Ski School, awarded the "South Tyrol Gold" quality seal, offers professional supervision in the new "CAMP 2" ski school building, complete with a beginner area and ski kindergarten. Cosy mountain huts like the Sternhütte and the Enzianhütte provide welcoming places to relax and enjoy refreshments.

A particular highlight is Italy's longest illuminated and artificial snow covered toboggan run: At 10 kilometres long, with a 900-metre vertical drop, it winds through an enchanting forest landscape back down to the valley. Night tobogganing with a head torch is a very special experience - once a week, the toboggan run is illuminated until midnight. Thanks to its proximity to the town, a day's skiing on the Monte Cavallo (Rosskopf) can be wonderfully combined with a visit to the "Bell Christmas of Vipiteno Sterzing", the Vipiteno Christmas Market, during the Advent season. The Ortler Skiarena Pass and the Alta Valle Isarco Ski Pass are valid in the ski area.
