At the annual festival, you can get to know the numerous alpine pastures and the impressive mountain world of the Val Casies
The beautiful Val Casies valley is a paradise for hikers and mountain lovers. A wide range of alpine pastures and mountain huts are scattered throughout the mountains and can be discovered on countless hiking trails in summer. To make this possible for everyone and to combine it with some culinary delights, a festival was organised decades ago to honour these beautiful places. Today, the Val Casies Mountain Pasture Festival - known as Gsieser Almhüttenfest in German - is a fixed part in the event calendar. It takes place on a Sunday in September, alternating between one of the three villages in the valley - Colle Casies, San Martino in Casies and Santa Maddalena in Casies.
The festival opens with a Holy Mass on the respective mountain pasture, after which local dishes are served in the mountain huts. Kaminwurzen, South Tyrolean mountain cheese, excellent Speck and delicacies such as "Puschtra Tirschtlan", apple strudel and Krapfen can be enjoyed on the sun terraces. Musical entertainment and a children's programme are also part of the Mountain Pasture Festival: It forms the ideal finale to summer in the Val Casies.
