Transart is one of the most important festivals for contemporary culture in Italy: It is dedicated to any kind of artistic expression
The festival, which has been transforming Bolzano into a meeting place for contemporary culture for 20 years now, skilfully combines projects of music, dance, performance, movie and visual arts with unusual locations. Every year for two weeks in September, Transart invites you to a wide variety of classical and electronic music concerts, performances, film screenings and exhibitions.
Starting from the provincial capital - the 1st edition in 2001 took place in the industrial zone of Bolzano (Bozen) - the festival now reaches the entire region of Trentino-South Tyrol: The venues for the individual meetings are abandoned industrial halls, former barracks, or alpine refuges. Also some well-known places such as the Bolzano Filmclub and the Bolzano Fair are among them.
Over the years, the Transart Festival has collaborated with important artists such as Marina Abramović, the Klangforum Wien music ensemble, Beat Furrer, Tokyo Contemporary Dance, and Tomoko Mukayama, as well as other festivals such as MaerzMusik Berlin, an international festival for musical art forms, and Klangspuren Schwaz, the Tyrolean festival for new music. It is organised by the "Transart Festival" association based in Bolzano.
