The longest giant slalom in the Dolomites marks the end of the winter season in the Val Gardena Ski Area - a worthy finale
The course of the Gardenissima is a spectacular 6 km long and has been attracting amateur and professional skiers to the Val Gardena Skiing Area for almost 30 years. It's the last few weeks of the ski season when they set off from the heights of the Seceda (2,518 m a.s.l.) in the Dolomites to the valley station of the Col Raiser Cable Car near Selva Gardena. In between, there are more than 1,000 m of altitude difference, 115 gates and an adventurous race where every second counts. The number of participants is limited to 650 and everyone from the age of 14 can participate.
The Südtirol Gardenissima weekend is meanwhile split into three days and includes the main race, the ski test and the after-race party as well as the Südtirol Gardenissima Kids, a promotional competition for children from the age of 8: It covers a third of the original course and takes young skiers from the Seceda to the valley station of the Fermeda Chairlift.
As the Gadena Valley and ski are closely linked, the world-famous ski resort is also the venue for other events such as the Ski World Cup and the Rock the Dolomites festival, a popular Winter Music Festival with rock music, which ends on the day the Gardenissima begins.
