The selection at the Val d’Ultimo Krapfen Festival in September is as diverse as South Tyrolean Krapfen
For several years now, the Val d'Ultimo has been inviting visitors to a special culinary highlight in September: Before the traditional Pracupola Market - always held on September 22 - takes place, first the various South Tyrolean Krapfen are celebrated and tasted.
Their variety already starts with the popular Val d'Ultimo poppy seed Krapfen. They are traditionally baked on All Saints' Day: The filling of finely ground poppy seeds, sugar, butter and a little cinnamon and nutmeg is particularly juicy. The evening before, the 31st of October, still today the children of the valley go from farm to farm for the Krapfen Begging.
Other Krapfen have fillings of jam or chestnuts, and are served with cream or with icing sugar. At the South Tyrolean Krapfen Festival at the valley station of the Schwemmalm Cable Car in Pracupola, you can watch the farmers' wives making Krapfen and enjoy the typical desserts afterwards. The event is organised by the Val d'Ultimo/Proves Tourist Association, you don't need a reservation. The perfect way to end the mountain summer in a very special atmosphere!
