Merano also hosts one of the 5 Original South Tyrolean Christmas Markets and - like all five - is a Green Event. From the end of November to the beginning of January, dozens of wooden stalls along the Cure Promenade, by the Kurhaus, and on the other side of the Passirio River in front of Merano Thermal Baths offer a variety of gift ideas and create a special Christmas atmosphere. At the numerous stalls, you can enjoy culinary specialities such as honey wine, Feuerzangenbowle (hot punch made with sugar loaf, rum and red wine), or grilled buckwheat dumplings.
You'll also find textiles, jewellery, ceramics, and wooden goods. Special highlights include the Krampus and St. Nicholas parade, as well as the light installations and magical spaces in the thermal bath park which, during "Silent Lights," create a wonderland. On New Year's Eve, Radio Deejay DJ Shorty awaits you at the Theatre Square, with live music on the Corso Libertà Superiore road. For younger visitors, there's a colourful programme in Goldy's little house, home to the Merano Christmas mascot. The Merano Christmas Market (Christkindlmarkt Meran) also extends to special locations in and outside the Old Town of Merano.
In the Christmas village of huts at the Piazza della Rena square, Michelin-starred chef and 2024 Chef of the Year Egon Heiss serves warm dishes in the large chalet. And for the first time since their opening over two decades ago, the Gardens of Trauttmansdorff Castle open their gates during the winter months for the Light Park LUMAGICA. The programme is complemented by the Solidarity House, town tours by lantern light, and exclusive tours of the Kurhaus.
