Also Merano hosts one of the 5 main Original South Tyrolean Christmas Markets: Some 80 exhibitors, offer their products between the first Advent weekend and early January. Gift ideas and a special Christmas atmosphere - that's what you are going to come across at the spa town.
The market booths in the old town, along the Cure Promenade - or Lungopassiria Promenade - with the Kurhaus and on the other riverbank, in front of the Merano Thermal Baths, offer special beverages and delicacies, such as honey wine, a brandy punch, and grilled buckwheat dumplings.
Furthermore, there are jewellery, pottery, items made from wood, and textiles. Some of the highlights are the Krampus run and the entrance of St. Nicholas in eary December, light, wind, sound and landscape installations at "Silent Lights", the Advent calendar on the facade of the Palais Mamming which houses the Merano Municipal Museum, and the Midnight-Music-Light-Show on New Year's Eve. Children have of course also been thought of, with and ice skating rink and special activities at the "Meraner Weihnacht", as it is called in German.
