Experience the magic of Advent in San Paolo Appiano: South Tyrol’s largest nativity scene exhibition awaits
Every year during Advent, the wine village of San Paolo Appiano in the Oltradige transforms into an enchanting nativity paradise. From the end of November until the beginning of January, over 150 handcrafted nativity scenes adorn the windows, bay windows, and niches of the historical lanes. Every day from 4 pm, these warmly lit works of art invite you to take a reflective stroll.
The village silhouette presents a magical scene, and the impressive Christmas tree in front of the "Cathedral in the Countryside", the stately parish church of San Paolo, lends a festive atmosphere. In 2024, the nativity scene exhibition will take place for the 26th time.
"Cribs at the Cathedral", part of Appiano Advent, is enriched by a diverse supporting programme. One weekend, you can visit the small Christmas Market "Crafts at the Cathedral" in the rectory courtyard. Another highlight is the San Paolo Advent singing in the parish church. On the third and fourth Sundays of Advent, the Nativity Scene Association presents the Living Nativity Scene in the village square, for which a stable is specially erected in front of the church. Other Christmas events in Appiano include "Christmas in Cornaiano" and the Christmas Market in San Michele Appiano.
