Bressanone Christmas Market

Festive cheer in the Cathedral Square and a Light & Music Show in Tyrol’s oldest town

After a day on the slopes of the Plose, the Bressanone Christmas Market in Cathedral Square invites you to enjoy a leisurely stroll. Just like in Bolzano, Merano, Brunico, and Vipiteno, a large Christmas Market takes place here annually, organised as a Green Event. The Bressanone Cathedral, with its ceiling frescoes and the 800-year-old cloister, lends a special atmosphere to the market in the old town. From the end of November until 6 January, nearly 50 stalls entice visitors with Christmas biscuits, mulled wine, dumplings, sweet doughnuts, wool, teas, and spice blends.

A popular meeting place is the fire pit in front of the wooden stage, where South Tyrolean singers perform. The glockenspiel of the White Tower rings out from Monday to Saturday at 11 am. Bressanone composer Manuela Kerer arranged the sounds to include the final movement of Beethoven's 9th Symphony - the "Ode to Joy" - as a resounding symbol of peace. At the information stand, you can buy Advent calendars in postcard format, designed by people with disabilities from the sheltered workshop Wunderbar - Seeburg, on the theme of peace.

Also worth seeing is the nativity scene exhibition at the Diocesan Museum at the Bishop's Palace. In 2024, the "Light & Music Show Brixen: Colors 2" will be held in its inner courtyard, an immersive visual and sound experience created by the French Spectaculaires - which have brought also the former light shows to Bressanone - and Ukrainian light artist Julia Shamsheieva.
