The Bressanone Christmas Market is the perfect place to enjoy a leisurely stroll across the market booths after a day in the Plose Skiing Area. It is one of the 5 Original Christmas Markets taking place in the South Tyrolean towns of Bolzano, Merano, Bressanone, Vipiteno and Brunico.
The Cathedral Square and of course the Cathedral itself with the ceiling fresco and its stunning 800-year old cloister in the old town provide a perfect ambience for this event. With the flavour of sweet Christmas bakery, the wool and felt products, the teas and blends of herbs and spices and Christmas carols all over, the 44 market booths of the Bressanone Christmas Market casts a spell over its visitors from the end of November to the 6th of January. For children there is a steam carousel. Hungry? What about a sandwich with melted cheese and a mulled wine?
Every day at 11 am, the carillon of the White Tower sounds, arranged by the composer Manuela Kerer from Bressanone. She took up the last movement of Beethoven's 9th Symphony with its "Ode to Joy" as a sounding symbol of peace. Another highlight is the nativity scene exhibition at the Bishop's Palace, which hosted in 2023 the Light Show "COLORS. A Homage to Peace" - it replaced the Light Musical Liora "The preciousness of an instant" of 2022.
