Experience South Tyrolean Christmas Tradition in Bolzano with “Traditions, Emotions, and Culture in the town”
Twinkling lights, the aroma of gingerbread, and festive sounds fill Bolzano's old town. From the end of November until 6 January, the Walther Square and its surroundings are transformed into a charming Christmas village. Artisans present their creations, from handcrafted candles and glass baubles to carved figurines. The stalls offering South Tyrolean specialities provide culinary delights. And, of course, a warming mug of mulled wine or hot spiced apple juice is a must!
Around Walther Square, where the Palais Campofranco reopened three winters ago, several smaller markets have sprung up. Now, around 100 stalls, including the Thun wooden house, await you. This year, the artisan stalls are no longer located in the Station Park, but along the Isarco River Promenade, from the Cathedral to the Capuchin Gardens. The varied programme of events includes "Reading at the Christmas Market", selected musical performances, the art project "Angelus Loci" with four installations throughout Bolzano, and the Find&Win competition.
For the 33rd edition of the Christmas market, the popular collector's Christmas mug is back. On New Year's Eve, the Walther Square and the Bolzano Christmas Market will be the start and finish line for the BOclassic South Tyrol, the International New Year's Eve Run. The South Tyrolean Christmas Markets are certified as Green Events and are planned and implemented according to ecological criteria. Important factors are the careful use of resources, environmentally friendly mobility, waste management, and the use of regional and seasonal products.
