Across two long weekends in Advent - the 2024 edition takes place around the first and second Sundays of Advent - Tyrol Castle transforms into an atmospheric Christmas wonderland. In December, the castle, usually home to the collections of the South Tyrolean Museum of Culture and Provincial History and "Gufyland", where visitors can admire eagles and owls during their flight demonstrations, focuses on artisan crafts, music, and contemplative moments.
Organised by the Tirolo Village Tourist Board, the "Advent in Tyrol Castle" (Tiroler Schlossadvent) also offers plenty for younger guests: A crafts workshop and the Bobby Live Show in the Knights' Hall provide entertainment. Adult visitors can admire traditional craftsmanship and enjoy musical performances. Culinary delights in the castle courtyard cater to every taste. Also on the programme: the Christmas play "When the Forest Animals Saved Christmas" by the Merano Maia youth theatre group and the traditional visit from the Krampus.
You can reach Tyrol Castle in 30 minutes on foot via the Castle Path. Alternatively, in fine weather, you can opt for a leisurely carriage ride from the church square in the centre of Tirolo village along the Castle Path (Schlossweg) to just outside the castle entrance.
