The daily breeze called Ora comes from the south, more precisely from Lake Garda, and makes Lake Caldare a real surfers paradise

Lake Caldaro with its daily south wind is ideal for surfing and sailing alike. The sport has been practised here for almost a century, whereas the first Caldaro Surfing Club came up in 1947. Did you know that Klaus Maran, born in Caldaro, is a three-times Windgliding World champion?
Today, Lake Caldaro offers the only windsurfing school in South Tyrol at the Gretl am See bathing establishment and a board rental on its shores. There are basic courses with professional windsurf instructors, which end with an internationally recognised basic windsurfing license, issued by the VAW. Also a shop is available where you'll find everything you need for this water sport.
Surfing and sailing is possible also on Lake Resia in the Val Venosta where the breeze is perfect in winter for ice sailing. So in the cold months you may see a sea of colourful sails on the ice. And also another sport is becoming more and more popular: SUP, stand up paddleboarding, where you stand on a board on the water, and use a paddle to propel yourself through the water. Possible - of course - on the waters of beautiful Lake Caldaro and of the Monticolo Lakes!
