The right hiking clothing is mainly responsible for your well-being during a mountain hike or hut tour
Who hasn't experienced it: the new underwear, the jacket that's too thin, the shoes that pinch, the wrong trousers... and already an excursion becomes an experience that you would prefer to end sooner rather than later. With the right choice of clothing and a little planning, even a multi-day tour in the mountains becomes an unforgettable adventure:
-
Walking shoes:
Walking boots should not be too small and should be already worn in to protect against blisters and pressure marks. If you are planning an alpine tour, a high upper is advantageous to give your feet the necessary stability. The material and properties - whether leather or synthetic, water-repellent or waterproof - depend on personal preferences. However, you should always have a pair of spare socks in your backpack. -
Jacket:
At best, the jacket should be rainproof, breathable and compact so that you can stow it in your rucksack if necessary. Layers can help: shirt/blouse, windstopper or softshell jacket and main jacket. Pockets and additional compartments create space for small items. A hood protects you from the weather, but it should not restrict your visual field too much. -
Hiking trousers:
The trousers should be breathable and sturdy. If they are wide enough, you can put on trousers or thermal clothing underneath if it starts to rain or gets cold. Jeans are only partly suitable: Zip-off trousers made of breathable material, where the trouser legs can be unzipped, are popular. -
Outerwear:
Shirts or blouses made of functional fabrics are particularly light, breathable and do not stick to the skin at higher temperatures. A pullover should always be included, preferably made of fleece that keeps you warm while being lightweight, wool or a wind stopper. -
Sun protection:
Proper sun protection with SPF 50+ and headgear with UV and neck protection are absolutely essential in the mountains. They prevent unpleasant sunburn, but also protect against malignant changes in the skin.
And finally, cap, gloves, first aid kit and the right food - always adapted to the length and altitude of the tour are needed. We wish you wonderful experiences in the mountains!
