This stage of the Chestnut Trail leads us from Sant’Ingenuino to Chiusa, and also to Barbiano and Villandro, the most traditional Törggele villages

We start this third stage of the chestnut trail at the church in Sant'Ingenuino (reachable by bus from Chiusa and Ponte Gardena). Heading towards north, we follow the road to Barbiano with its famous leaning church tower. We pass the church at its left side and take the trail leading upwards to Villandro. Normally, the chestnut trail would pass the small village of San Maurizio.
However, this section is closed at present and we hike upwards towards Stofels, crossing the ravine of the Rio Zargen stream. At the farms of Stofels we take trail no. 4, which leads us across sunny meadows and chestnut forests until we finally reach the centre of Villandro (Villanders).
The centre of Villandro with its S. Stefano church is very worth to be visited. From Villandro, we hike towards north to the impressive Monastero di Sabiona, where the trail leads down into the Tinne Valley and finally into the nice medieval centre of Chiusa, the end point of this third stage.
