IMPORTANT NOTICE: Fishing, bathing and diving is still prohibited. The military authority is recovering war material. Furthermore, due to intense dives by special forces of the Italian navy also the circular path around the lake will be completely closed from mid-April to the end of 2024. Administrative penalties apply in case of unauthorized entering. (updated: October 2024)
Today we decide to make a comfortable walk that is not too long and ideal also with buggies or small kids. In the industrial zone of Varna (at the Gostner fuel station), we follow the indication "Vahrner See/Lago di Varna" and park our car on the indicated parking space near the camping site, under a shady tree. We start our walk and along the lake we pass by a tavern, right at the beginning. Afterwards the asphalted road transforms into a forested path and we approach the biotope at the lakeside. Since 1977 the lake has been under natural protection.
From the lakeside you can by the way observe different species of dragonflies that have their natural habitat in this place. There is also a historic shooting range. Soon after we reach the beach, a lovely lawn with direct access to the lake, where we stop for swimming. Here our walk ends, as the path doesn't lead around the whole lake. We walk back to our starting point on the same path.
