This family hike leads near San Giovanni in the Valle Aurina valley via the Frankbach Waterfall and the Witches Path to the Bizat Mountain Hut, which was once a small farm

Our hike starts at the Platterhof mountain inn (1,157 m a.s.l.) above San Giovanni (St. Johann im Ahrntal). At first we follow the signpost "Hexensteig" without any significant ascent and at the same time we are on one of the "Ahrntaler Sonnenwege" (Valle Aurina Sun Paths). Information boards tell again and again about events from the past. After about 15 minutes walking time we follow the sign "Wasserfall", which leads us down to the impressive Frankbach Waterfall.
Then we return to the Witches Path (Hexensteig) and follow trail no. 18 towards the Bizat Mountain Hut (Bizat Hütte). The path runs steadily uphill partly in the forest, partly through meadows. The children enjoy stopping at the individual stations of the theme trail, such as the Sun Witch House, the Bear Cave and the climbing wall. After about one hour we reach the Bizathütte mountain hut at 1,416 m a.s.l. (walking time 50 minutes), a real children's paradise with playground, ponds and petting zoo, where we stop for lunch.
The Ascension Chapel built in 2018 is also part of the ensemble near the hut. From here we can enjoy a beautiful view over some of the partly still snow-covered mountains of the Valle Aurina valley, such as the Monte Fumo and the Cima Dura. For our way back we take the same route.
