Hike on the St. Francis’ Path near Campo Tures

One of the most impressive natural spectacles in the Valle di Tures valley are without any doubt the Riva Waterfalls (Reinbachfälle), a famous excursion destination. But only few visitors followed the once not quite harmless path until the Toblburg castle ruin. Up there, also a castle chapel was located, which was saved and restored in 1982. At the moment of renovation, the St. Francis' Path (Franziskusweg) was built, dedicated to Francis of Assisi.

Not only the chapel was renovated, also the paths were repaired. The idea was to create a path which inspires to think and pray. So each parish got the task to design one point of reflection. The result is the St. Francis’ Path, a path of silence, meditation, prayer and retreat. Starting from the parking space at Bar Wasserfall near Campo Tures (Sand in Taufers) you cross a symbolic door, through which you enter the world of meditation and silence of the forest.

As a contrast, the noise of the waterfalls well represents the power of nature. Shortly before reaching the chapel dedicated to Clare and Francis, the ascent becomes steeper, but the path remains easy and, thanks to the steps and its modest length, it is feasible also for less trained hikers. You return on the same route or alternatively on path no. 2A on the other side of the valley.
