Already in May, when it is still too early for high alpine hikes in the Val Martello valley, this walking tour can be a good hint. Starting point is the valley bottom of the Val Martello (parking spaces along the main road, e.g. at the Schulmeistermahd or Santa Maria alla Fonderia). We follow the path along the Rio Plima until the bridge, which leads us to the western side. Here we follow the path no. 34 which leads us slightly uphill along the valley. Then the path branches off to the right, along a stony trail we have to manage a steep section (about 350 m in altitude).
Quite demanding, but after 50 minutes we have reached the Schluder Mountain Hut (Schluder Alm), a beautiful alpine meadow amidst the forest with a few nice wooden huts. Here we find the path no. 8, the comfortable Martello High Route (Marteller Höhenweg), which we follow towards north. After a while we reach the clearance of Stallwies with the renovated tavern in the middle.
A really nice place for our lunch break! The restaurant is well-known for its delicious local dishes and we enjoy our pause. The descent proceeds along path no. 5 which leads us down into the valley in a short time. Arrived again at our starting point, we finish this nice hike in May. An almost 2 km long section follows the main road of the valley. Please pay attention to (low) traffic.
