This mountain hike offers breathtaking views on some of the most beautiful mountains in the Dolomites, including the Three Peaks of Lavaredo, Mt. Paterno and Mt. Cima Dodici

By train we go to Dobbiaco (Toblach) where we take the bus to the Auronzo Mountain Hut (Auronzohütte), the starting point of our hike. Here we are already at 2,333 m a.s.l. and enjoy a wonderful view on the Cadini di Misurina Group and Lake Misurina. We start our partial circumnavigation of the Three Peaks of Lavaredo on the path no. 101. It leads us to the Lavaredo Mountain Hut (Lavaredohütte) at 2,344 m a.s.l. in about 30 minutes. We hike in rocky terrain, but the path is wide and nearly flat. We stay on this path, which now slightly ascends, but after the Forcella di Lavaredo saddle continues rather flat again and one hour later we reach the Antonio Locatelli Mountain Hut (Drei-Zinnen-Hütte) at 2,405 m a.s.l. From here we enjoy a fantastic view on the famous Three Peaks, or Tre Cime, and the two beneath located Piani Lakes (Bödenseen).
Our partial circumnavigation of the Three Peaks ends here and we walk - always on path no. 101 - towards the Pian di Cengia ridge (Büllelejoch). Below the path there is a third lake which shimmers in many shades of blue and has still snow on its shore. Directly after the Pian di Cengia, the rustic Pian di Cengia Mountain Hut (Büllelejochhütte) is located, where we enjoy our lunch (walking time from the Rifugio Antonio Locatelli: 1 hour). After the nice break we decide to make a side trip to Mt. Croda Fiscalina (path no. 101A, 2,677 m a.s.l.). The 30-minute walk from the Pian di Cengia Mountain Hut (2,528 m a.s.l.) is definitely worth it. On the way again and again we find traces of the mountain war which took place here during WWI. From the summit we can see again the Three Peaks of Lavaredo, the impressive Mt. Cima Dodici, Mt. Cima Undici and Mt. Cima Una as well as the surrounding alpine world and the village of Moso near Sesto (Moos) down in the valley.
The descent leads past the Pian di Cengia Mountain Hut to the Comici Mountain Hut at 2,224 m a.s.l. (Zsigmondyhütte) in about 40 minutes. At the wayside we meet some not shy marmots. We spend the night in the alpine hut and enjoy the magic moment of the sunset, which colours the bright dolomite rock pink. The next day we take the path no. 103 (later no. 102) down into the Val Fiscalina valley and reach the Fondovalle Mountain Hut (1,548 m a.s.l.) in approx. 1.5 hours and shortly afterwards the Piano Fiscalina Mountain Hut (1,454 m a.s.l.). From here there are again bus connections into the Val Pusteria valley. But because our time allows it, we decide to continue on the path 1-1A to Sesto. There we take the bus to reach the train station of San Candido and go home by train. This hike is also possible without overnight stay. The total walking time for example is reduced by one hour, if you continue by bus already at the Piano Fiscalina Mountain Hut.
