A sunny day gives us the idea to drive to the Madonna di Pietralba Pilgrimage Site and explore a mountain hut at 1,530 m a.s.l

The backpacks are packed, the hiking boots are put on and here we go. We start from the car park of the Madonna di Pietralba Pilgrimage Site (Maria Weissenstein), from where we already enjoy a wonderful view on the South Tyrolean mountains. The signpost tells us that it won't take us very long to reach our destination: Path no. 2 leads us to the mountain hut in 35 minutes. So there is plenty of time to stop along the way and explore nature a bit closer.
The wide forest path allows a pleasant chat while hiking together. In the valley we reach a small bridge that leads over a little mountain stream. Here we stop. The children take off their shoes and enthusiastically build dams or simply throw stones into the water. The course of the water is explored in detail and also the surrounding forest. The trees provide shade. After some time we convince the children to go on, because there are still interesting things waiting for them at the mountain hut. It works and half an hour later we arrive - after a climbing tour along the shortcut - at the Monte San Pietro Mountain Hut (Petersberger Leger Alm, 1.531 m a.s.l.). At the entrance there is a herbal snail in front of us, lovingly marked off with stones and extended with a pond.
The many homemade decorations that make the atmosphere cosy are really striking. Ant hills, meadows, woods and animals form a paradise for children who love nature. Tipis and a sweat lodge decorate the meadow in front of the house. We could go on to the next mountain hut, but we prefer to relax today. The stay at the Monte San Pietro Mountain Hut is crowned with a delicious "Strauben", a traditional sweet. After a few hours of sun and relaxation, we return to the car park where we admire the Catinaccio and Latemar in the evening sun. Satisfied and with the certainty that we will come back, we drive home. You can also extend the tour by starting in Monte San Pietro (Petersberg) and including the Laab Mountain Hut (Laabalm) in the tour.
