The month of July, above all with days hot like these, is an ideal period for making a trip to the Val Sarentino. At 1,570 m asl, at the lower terminus of the Reinswald cable-way, the temperatures are rather refreshing, which is perfect for us, suffering from the heat in the valley. The cable-way takes us, a family with three kids, up to the mountain station Pichlberg at 2,130 m asl. Alone the ride, making you enjoy a great view of the Val Sarentino, is worthwhile and the panorama of the surrounding mountains is just astonishing. The kids already rage and riot on the playground at the Pichlberg Alm pasture close to the mountain station. From this place, the large tour of the Urlesteig would lead to the Getrumalm alpine pasture, before returning to the valley station.
The second stage of this tour displays peculiarities of the Val Sarentino (mountain station - Getrumalm) and the flora of the Val Sarentino (Getrumalm - Sarner Mühlen - lower terminus). We decide to the the other two sections, that is to say the shorter tour via the Pfnatschalm pasture. The first stage is dedicated to the topic water. The broad path takes past water wheels and leads to the Pfnatschalm at 2,078 m, offering local delicacies and home-made dishes, typical for the Val Sarentino. Above the alpine pasture, there is a pond with floats, which is of course a highlight.
Afterwards the way proceeds slightly downwards, the second section of the trail focuses on nature in Val Sarentino. It provides information on local animals such as the crossed vipers, the mountain cock and the Alpine jackdaw. And you can even scale a giant dragonfly. Slowly the path becomes more narrow and leads to the Sunnolm (1,834 m), where we stop to have an ice-cream. Close to the Sunnolm pasture, there is the so-called "Urlelockn", which is name-giving for the Urlesteig path. Then we start the descent towards Reinswald. For the kids, there are lots of attractions and games along the path, making hiking a real adventure also for them. Soon we reach the parking space at the lower terminus in Reinswald.
