The mountain huts are not only great hiking destinations but offer also overnight stays during high mountain tours
The region features several special mountain huts, from the highest located hut of South Tyrol, the Rifugio Gino Biasi at 3,195 m a.s.l., to the Rifugio Maria in the moon-shaped landscape of Mt. Sass Pordoi, and the reconstructed Rifugio Francesco Petrarco in the mountains of the Val Passiria valley. Most of them were built between the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century and are now contact points for mountain guides and hikers (see below "Tips and more infos").
