South Tyrol is one of the most sought-after destinations for those who love, practice, and follow cycling: not only for the beauty of its mountain and valley roads, cycle paths, and off-road trails but also thanks to an increasingly packed calendar of races, events, and themed initiatives.
Among the highlights of the cycling season, of which we present a selection here, are of course the South Tyrolean stages of the Giro d'Italia, where the most famous and challenging passes of the region become the battleground for the best climbers in the world.
The roads of South Tyrol, however, are not reserved for professionals alone. Even amateur cyclists can be protagonists of increasingly popular events such as the Maratona dles Dolomites, the famous granfondo across the Dolomite passes of Ladinia. Or the Giro delle Dolomiti, a multi-stage event based in Bolzano, which combines competition with relaxed exploration of the beauty of the Pale Mountains.
For every cyclist, there's nothing better than pedaling on car-free roads, as during Sellaronda Bike Day, across the four passes around the Sella Group, or Bike Day on the Mendel; the Eroica Dolomiti, on the other hand, is a leap into the past, between fun and nostalgia, with vintage bicycles and clothing.
For mountain bike enthusiasts, the BMW HERO Südtirol Dolomites in Val Gardena, the Südtirol Dolomiti Superbike in the Alta Pusteria and the Ortler Bike Marathon in the Upper Venosta are not to be missed: three challenging events, but with a choice of routes of varying length and difficulty.
Whether you're in the saddle yourself or cheering on your favorite champion, in South Tyrol you'll find the perfect event to experience your passion for cycling!
