From San Michele Appiano we cycle trough the Monticolo Forest to the Small and Big Monticolo Lake
Image gallery: Bike tour to Lake Monticolo
At the roundabout (Piazza Stazione square) in San Michele Appiano, we cycle towards Monticolo, before we turn left into Via Weisshaus road, from where we proceed, slightly upwards, towards the forest. Where the vineyards and the fruit orchards border on the Monticolo Forest, the asphalted track ends and we proceed on a wide forested path, leading us to the sports area of Ronco. First left, than right we proceed on the forested trail for about 10 minutes.
Orientation and directions are very easy, as the trails are all well-signposted. At the Small Monticolo Lake (Kleiner Montiggler See), the trail ends and an asphalted road takes us to its "big brother". To those who would like to discover nature we recommend a ride round the lake. Please have regards for the promenaders. If you drive slow, you can enjoy a great view on the Monticolo Lakes. Even if great parts of the trail are not asphalted, this route can be overcome with almost every bicycle. A mountain bike is of course the ideal bike, but not absolutely necessary.
The drop is easy to overcome, the forest provides shade. The bicycle is an ideal means to reach the recreation area at the lakeside: no parking problems, no dependence on timetables, easygoing movement in nature. Furthermore, both lakes offer a bathing establishment: the Small Monticolo Lake Lido and the Big Monticolo Lake Lido.
