South Tyrol offers cycle paths through its beautiful valleys and mountain trails which reach up to 3,000 m a.s.l. - the cycle path network of the region includes more than 500 kilometres.
Bolzano and Merano are known as "bicycle-friendly towns" and can measure up to the most bicycle-friendly towns of Europe. Both have received already several times the "Comune Ciclabile" award from the FIAB (Italian Federation for Environment and Cycling), and have been awarded the highest score, five bike-smiles, for their cycle paths, cycling policy and cycle tourism.
Currently for example, there are 16 bike sharing stations in Bolzano: The service is called "Fahrrad Bozen / Bici Bolzano" and is part of an extensive mobility concept. Also Merano offers several stations where you can rent a bike, and its Sustainable Mobility Plan includes a bicycle plan.
