The highest located open-air art gallery in the world has been inaugurated on the Plan de Corones in the Val Pusteria valley
At the end of June 2024, numerous people gathered on Mt. Plan De Corones, situated above Brunico, to take part in a special event: the inauguration of the highest located open-air art gallery in the world. The event was organised by the famous ski mountain and its LUMEN, a museum devoted to mountain photography. Alongside the circular trail B of six km that surrounds the summit, in an alpine setting, you can admire the art works of six local artists.
All the works are provided with information plaques that give you further insights into them. Among those pieces of art you can find an enormous cube and deer antlers. The core of this project was represented by sustainability: The objects had to be made of 100% sustainable materials or to focus on sustainability. This is the reason why two of these works were entirely realised with the wood that had been damaged by the bark beetle on the Plan de Corones. The artists that participated in this project are Will-ma Kammerer, Judith Neunhäuserer, Rina Treml, Helmuth Pizzinini, Ruth Oberschmied and Andreas Zingerle.
The entirety of the artworks can be visited for free during the whole summer. Furthermore there will be organized a guided hiking trip on every Wednesday in summer. You can sign up for it in the LUMEN Museum of Mountain Photography or in the information office.
