"Avia - the Lumberjack Trail" is the name of the 10 km long journey of discovery from San Genesio village to Mezzavia (Halbweg) on the road into the Sarentino Valley, which takes you on the tracks of the lumberjacks. The trail starts below the village centre of San Genesio and then winds through the forests of the high plateau, past a total of 9 interactive stations, two of them with play opportunities. The trail descends to a plain and then climbs again to the enchanting village of Avigna. It is situated at about 850 m a.s.l., high above the entrance to the Val Sarentino.
Above Avigna, the Lumberjack Trail, or Holzfällerweg Jenesien, leads out of the village and constantly down the valley to Mezzavia on the Sarentino Road. As the hike takes about 3.5 hours, a return by public transport is recommended. Bus line no. 150 - with a change in Bolzano to line no. 156 - takes you back to the starting point (50 minutes).
