The Foiana Chestnut Trail above Lana shows you the world of the sweet chestnut and chestnut trees

A huge chestnut husk after the sports ground of Foiana, a so-called "Keschtnigel", forms the entrance to the Chestnut Trail - "Kastanienweg Völlan" in German, "Sentiero didattico del Castagno a Foiana" in Italian. It leads leisurely through the chestnut groves of the Merano region. The information boards along the 2.5 km long hike show you the way and tell about the sweet chestnuts and their growth. The interactive stations invite you to discover.
The Forestry Department of the Province of Bolzano has been concerned with the protection and preservation of the sweet chestnut for years. This gave rise to the idea of an adventure trail that brings children and adults closer to this delicious fruit: The Foiana Chestnut Trail was realised a few years ago in cooperation between the Merano Forest Inspectorate and the municipality of Lana.
Especially in autumn, the area invites you to the traditional Törggelen, and the crowning glory is - exactly, roasted chestnuts with butter and Krapfen filled with chestnuts.
