Since 2024 the Alta Valle Isarco offers an intriguing hike devoted to bees. This new thematic trail starts from the Casa della Cultura (a centre for leisure activities) in the centre of Trens, that is, at the "Imker-Pavillon" situated behind the building. The path leads to Valgenauna, in the south. It extends over two km and is immersed in woods and grassland. Alongside this itinerary, called Bienenweg Trens in German, you can find numerous information signs that reveal you interesting details on the life of bees, honey production and bee colonies.
Delve into some interesting facts on the queen bee and worker bees, the production of honey and other bee products, get to know more about honey bee plants and the huge impact of bees on agriculture and the environment. A small part of the itinerary is dedicated to wasps and bumblebees and children have the possibility to romp around in the play areas and hug the "cuddle bee". Take a break and rest on the deck chairs made of wood.
This easy hike can be completed in 45 minutes and is suitable for baby carriages. Children and school classes can deepen the intriguing life of bees. The path is mainly in the shadow and therefore a good choice even for the summer months. Once you have reached the destination of this itinerary, that is the residential area of Valgenauna in Campo di Trens (Freienfeld), you will be above 1,000 m a.s.l. Take the same path to return to the starting point in Trens.
