The popular South Tyrolean event known as “Street Kitchen” characterise the mild summer evenings in the country
In summer, mostly in July and August, many Street Kitchens - "Strassenküche" in German, "Cucina in strada" in Italian - can be found in the valleys of South Tyrol. Local innkeepers then offer their delicacies framed by music and an entertainment programme.
Some chefs prepare typical specialities from the old days, like grandma's "Kirchtagskrapfen", filled with poppyseed or jam. In other villages there are evenings dedicated to a special ingredient or a particular highlight. The Campo Tures Street Kitchen in the Valle di Tures valley is called "Tauferer Strassenküche" and is one of the oldest and most famous street kitchens in the whole country.
Furthermore there are several culinary events in the Valle Isarco valley, such as the "Party by Lamplight" in Vipiteno, the well-known "Bressanone Summer Experience", the "Gasslfieber" in Chiusa, and smaller parties including the "Summerparty" in Naz-Sciaves and the "Summergaudi" in Velturno. In the high season these Street Kitchens are repeated every week and are the best way for you to combine a South Tyrolean summer evening with good food, music and entertainment.
