A few years ago, South Tyrol was enriched by a new via ferrata: Ölberg ("Mount of Olives") is the name of the via ferrata in Avenes, which combines the climbing experience with panoramic views on the valley basin and the surrounding peaks. Along the 230 metres in altitude there are beautiful climbing passages, surefootedness and a head for heights are of course essential, as is always the case when climbing. In total, you can expect a tour of three hours.
First you go to the Skytrek Adventure Park in Vipiteno, where you can rent the appropriate equipment. There is then a parking possibility just after the tunnel towards the Val di Vizze, and from there it is another 15-minute walk to the access point of the via ferrata. It leads along the rock face in the right part of the Ölberg mountain in varying degrees of difficulty to a small resting place. Afterwards, the route descends on a partly secured trail to a suspension bridge.
This crosses a small stream shortly before Avenes (Afens) and then the return to the starting point is not far. Now about the figures: The Ölberg Via Ferrata is in the medium difficulty range B / D, is 500 metres long and ideal for experienced via ferrata lovers. For children, a minimum height of 1.30 metres and climbing experience is recommended. Have fun!
