Hans Kammerlander Via Ferrata

A challenging via ferrata, named after a great mountaineer, can be found in the woods of Acereto in the Valli di Tures and Aurina

Close to the famous Riva Waterfalls a via ferrata climbs up the so-called ‘Kofel’. Excellently laid out and opened a few years ago, it offers a breathtaking view on the three thousand metre peaks of the Valli di Tures and Aurina (Tauferer Ahrntal). The trail was named after the extreme mountain climber Hans Kammerlander, who was born here in Acereto (Ahornach). In the course of his life so far, he has climbed twelve eight-thousanders, including the first double traverse of eight-thousanders - Gasherbrum II and Hidden Peak - together with Reinhold Messner.

You can already see the upper rope bridge on the way from the Toblhof inn towards Acereto. In the village itself, the route then leads to the hiking car park at the Gasteigerhof and on to the ‘Kofler zwischen den Wänden’ climbing garden car park at 1,520 metres a.s.l.. A small rock face with practice routes and the practice via ferrata ‘Kofler zwischen den Wänden ’ is ideal for anyone who wants to make their first experiences on the wall. The entrance to the Hans Kammerlander Via Ferrata itself is a bit lower and a short walk away.

With difficulty level ED, this is a challenging via ferrata that runs along the lower, extremely steep rock face on the Picco Palù (Großer Moosstock), the ‘Kofel'. Over a length of 600 metres, you will pass a hanging ladder and rope bridges on the via ferrata. A tree trunk is used to help you cross the roof edge. Complete via ferrata equipment, gloves and helmet as well as the necessary experience are essential. Nothing for the faint-hearted!
