An original and rewarding fixed-rope route through a canyon can be found between San Michele all’Adige and Salorno in South Tyrol

Today we decided to climb a via ferrata between Salorno and San Michele all'Adige: tight, original and not too long. Our starting point is the trucker-parking space at Cadino, which is located directly at the state road between San Michele all'Adige and Salorno and can not be overlooked. We cross the state road towards the small chapel and follow the path into the broadleaved forest. After a climb of 100 meters through the wood we reach the entrance of the fixed-rope route. It is located directly in the brook canyon and starts with the first upright section. The second section is a bit longer and has the name "Salto dei Caprioli" what quasi means the jump of the deer.
We leave the canyon on the left side and walk further to the viewpoint "Belvedere" where we have a gorgeous view to Mezzocorona and Mezzolombardo. Again back in the canyon the via ferrata leads over a scarp, further to the "Passaggio dei Gabbiani", an exhausting traverse. Past the escape hatch we reach the "Steinmännchen-Siedlung", a place of small stone figures. It makes us feel like we were in the time of the dinosaurs. Another two exhausting scarps follow, then we have reached the exit. In winter the rock is iced up in large part and in spring the brook carries a lot of water.
So the best time for this fixed-rope route is between June and October. At the top of it you can chose either the westerly climb down or the southerly one which leads you to the next village Faedo. Notice: Best time to do this via ferrata is between June and October. Don't do it after heavy rains! Equipment required! This Via Ferrata is not too long but still you need a good time planning.
