According to the composer Gustav Mahler, it was “… wonderful and certainly repairs body and soul” in the Upper Val Pusteria

In Dobbiaco village, a great Bohemian composer is remembered every year: The Gustav Mahler Music Weeks bring the Dobbiaco Cultural Centre to life with beautiful sounds in midsummer. Gustav Mahler spent his summer holidays in Dobbiaco from 1908 to 1910 and composed his last three orchestral works here. The corresponding Composing Hut, called "Komponierhäuschen" in German, can be found a few kilometres from the main village in a wooded plot of land.
To be precise, it is the district of Carbonin Vecchia, where the small wooden house from the outside leaves no idea of what has been created here. It can be found in the so-called Nature Sound Park. The old Trenkerhof, a noble residence that later became known as the Mahlerstube restaurant and where Gustav Mahler stayed during his summer holidays, is located on the nearby area of the Dobbiaco Wildlife Park. The Composing Hut has been preserved true to original.
Here Gustav Mahler (1860-1911) composed the 9th Symphony and the unfinished 10th Symphony as well as "Das Lied von der Erde" (The Song of the Earth) during the summers at the beginning of the 20th century. The latter was first performed in Munich after his death in 1911. And how can the little house be reached? The road there branches off at Dobbiaco, also the bus lines 441, 442 and 443 or a footpath take you from Dobbiaco towards Carbonin Vecchia. The Composing Hut can then only be reached on foot or by bicycle by following the path starting from the wildlife park towards Bodenwiese/Maistatt. Please note that there are no parking facilities.
