In winter, the Helmjet - the Monte Elmo Cable Car - is one of the access points to the 3 Zinnen Dolomites Ski Resort, and in summer, to the magnificent mountain world of the Three Peaks Nature Park. The new "Haus der Berge" (House of the Mountains), which is described as an outstanding example of sustainable building in the Alps, was opened at this location in autumn 2023. Master builder is the architectural office "delueg architekten" from Vipiteno.
The four-storey building is made of local spruce and larch wood left over from the "Vaia" storm front and has been usefully utilised here. In this multi-purpose wooden building, the Sesto information office has found its place on the 1st and 2nd floor. Level 2 is dedicated to "Terra Sexten", where you can playfully discover the area on a room-filling floor painting.
The next level represents the mountain friendship between Sesto and Zermatt, the Swiss mountain resort that is also popular among skiers, climbers and hikers. The 4th floor faces the Sesto Sundial - the mountains called Cima Nove, Cima Dieci (Croda Rossa di Sesto), Cima Undici, Cima Dodici and Cima Una. Already the Romans are said to have used it as a natural sundial. And how to reach the alpine centre? It can be found on the outskirts of Sesto (Sexten), right nex to the valley station of the Helmjet Cable Car and in the same complex as the Sesto Event Center and the library "Claus Gatterer". A large parking space and bus stops are available.
