A large part of the woods in the Fanes-Senes-Braies Nature Park is made up of spruces and serves thus as the habitat for such animals as the heather cock, the European pine marten and the red fox. Also alpine pastures and mountain meadows cover large parts, offering a big variety of plants and flowers, such as the mountain arnica and the Gentiana. At altitudes higher than 2,000 metres, however, there are mountain hares and snow grouses, as well as plants such as the edelweiss, the Rampion, the Horminum pyrenaicum, the yarrow, the mountain avens and the Globularia.
Lake Dobbiaco in the Upper Val Pusteria is situated right on the border between the Three Peaks Nature Park towards east and the Fanes-Senes-Braies Nature Park. In the protected area follow magical places such as the Prato Piazza and Lake Braies, which is known as the "Pearl among Dolomite lakes". It continues from the Braies Dolomites to the mighty Fanes Group and the Senes Highland: High plateaus and rocky slopes are an ideal habitat for chamoises, mouflons and ibexes, which have learned to get along perfectly with steep surroundings.
