Latemar Group

The Latemar Group is a mountain range which extends in the south of Mt. Catinaccio, separated from it by the Passo di Costalunga

The Latemar, on which peak runs the border between South Tyrol and the Trentino, is accessible from the Val d'Ega in South Tyrol as well as from the Alpe di Pampeago and from Predazzo in Trentino, the place where the Alpine Coaster Gardonè flashes through mountain meadows. The peaks provide also the backdrop for the stunning Lake Carezza where once upon a time a water fairy lived. According to another legend, the peaks of the Latemar Group are fossilized puppets.

This mountain range in the Dolomites is characterised by its form of a horseshoe, open towards east. It has got two subgoups: The northern group includes the peaks from the Cima Poppe (2,460 m a.s.l.) to Mt. Torre dei Muss (2,402 m a.s.l.), whereas the mountains of the second group tower up round Mt. Agnello (2,358 m a.s.l.). However, the Latemar Group is a perfect outdoor pleasure ground with two South Tyrolean skiing areas: the Carezza Dolomites Ski Area and the Latemar - Obereggen Ski Center. Among the summer tours there are e.g. the hike on the southern slope of Mt. Latemar and the one in the Latemarium Obereggen. On two wheels, the Latemar Ronda around the mighty Latemar Massif is one of the bike classics in the Dolomites.
